New Gospel Class Starting in September

If you are new to Genesis, and would like to find out about our core values and beliefs, or you are considering membership, you may want to consider getting involved in our upcoming Gospel Class that will begin on Sunday September 7. The location of the class is to be determined.

The Gospel Class is for those who are new to Genesis, or considering membership, and is designed to give an overview of our core values, beliefs and vision as a church. The class is five weeks.

You can get more information from the Gospel Class flyer at the Information Table on Sunday mornings, and can register there as well.

I Promise Marriage Seminar, Compassion International

Genesis is planning to take a group to the I Promise Marriage Seminar led by Dr. Gary Smalley the weekend of September 12-13. Dr. Smalley is a family life counselor, radio host, and has authored 28 books on marriage and family. The conference is at Church on the Rock in St. Charles, meeting on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Cost for the conference is $40 for an individual and $75 for a couple. We will be registering people during the month of July (deadline is July 27). This is a great chance for couples to get a tune-up and build health in their marriage, and a good event for those considering marriage.

What a blessing to have the opportunity to change the life of a child through child sponsorship. A few dollars a month can feed, cloth, provide medical assistance, and help educate a child in a 3rd world country. Compassion International is a great Christian organization that seeks to change the lives of kids living in poverty by connecting them with sponsors from the U.S. Child sponsorship through Compassion is $32 a month.

We are starting an emphasis on child-sponsorship through Compassion this morning. We will have some information during the service this morning, and will have a table in our foyer with children you may choose to sponsor. Pray about sponsoring a child through Compassion. Block Party, Kid’s Clubs, and World Changers

We are going to try something new this year with our Genesis Kid’s Clubs. Rather than a large parent night at the end of the week, we are going to try to provide block parties in each neighborhood before the clubs. The block parties would include food and some games, and then a movie in the park.

To make this happen, we need a team of people to lead these. We have access to a trailer and other supplies to make these great events. The team would work with our Kid’s Clubs leaders to choose dates, and plan for publicity. They would then make the events happen. See Mike or Kristi Machica to get information, or to join this team.

During July, we will be providing Genesis Kids Clubs in four different Eureka neighborhoods. Our Genesis Kids Clubs give us a great opportunity to reach out to kids and meet families. The clubs are two or three hours long and meet four or five days. If you have elementary aged kids, be sure to bring them to one of the clubs.

As we organize the clubs, we can use adults and teenagers to help make each club successful. Our clubs and their leaders are listed below. If you would like to help with any of these clubs, contact the leader or see Kristi Machica.

About 300 teenagers will come to St. Louis the week of June 14-18 on a World Changers Mission Trip. These students will be doing construction projects for people living in the city, putting roofs and siding on homes, hanging dry wall, painting, and a lot more. Genesis Church is going to host a crew of 12-15 youth and adult leaders, meaning that they will be in worship with us on Sunday, and we will be providing lunch during all week long.

We need help in two ways. First, we need people to donate lunches. This would either mean preparing lunch for the group, or providing money so lunch could be purchased. Second, we need people to deliver the meals each day during the week. This would involve driving into St. Louis, meeting up with the crew, serving their lunch, and bringing coolers back for the next day. Hopefully, we can find enough people to deliver lunches that no one would have to do it more than once.

We also need a coordinator, someone to organize the entire effort for us. If you are willing to help in any way, contact Mike.

Family Mission Trip, New Series, Youth Camp

It’s not too late to be a part of the mission trip to Oak Grove, KY. First, if you would like to go, but have not jumped in yet, see Mike for information. But everyone can be involved in sending the group from our church. For the next two Sundays, we will be collecting a special offering for the Family Mission Trip. Money given to the offering will provide finances needed for building supplies and equipment, prizes and items for the kids clubs, and any needs to help serve families in the area. If you would like to give to this offering, let us know if is for the “Mission Trip” on your check or offering envelope.

The Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes is an interesting book, because it contemplates many of the tough life questions people ponder. The author Solomon examines his own life and interacts with topics such as the meaning of life, pain and suffering, why evil exists, the shortness of life, and how to make life work on this earth. Mike will begin preaching through the book of Ecclesiastes on June 8.

Students who have completed grades 6-12 are invited to attend youth camp with us the week of July 7-11. We will be attending the St. Louis Metro Baptist Association Camp at Hannibal LaGrange College. Camp is $150, and registration forms are available. Students need to turn in a $25 deposit with a form by next Sunday. We also need a couple adults to go with the group.
