Christmas Store, City Tree Lighting

Time to Get Ready for our Christmas Store We are already working on plans for our Low Cost Christmas Store in December, an event to help the poor and hurting in our community provide Christmas gifts for their kids. The store will take place on Saturday December 12, but now is our time to get ready so it will be fabulous. To make this event work, we need a full team effort from our church. Every person who is a part of Genesis can help make the Low-Cost Christmas Store as success by doing two things.

First, donate gifts for the store. We need lots of new items for kids from birth to 18. Gifts need to be between $10-30. We need all gifts here by November 29. Second, get on board to help with the event. We need lots of workers. Most people will work on that day, December 12. But we have a few teams who will do their work beforehand. Stop by the Information Table or see Melody Buehrle to find out where you can plug in.

City Christmas Tree Lighting Event - Another Chance to Serve Eureka The Eureka City Parks Dept. contacted us and asked if we would be willing to help with a community event they have planned for the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 28. Genesis will be planning and staffing a craft and game room for kids during the event. Parents will bring their children into the room down in Old Town Eureka, and we will provide a craft, a game or two, and a place for kids to decorate cookies. We will have the craft room open from 5-8:30 PM.

Genesis people can help in a couple ways. First, we need a team of three or four people to organize the craft to be made. Second, we need at least five to eight people in the room at all times that evening, so if you can work all or part of the time, let us know.

The city has also asked if we would have a few people to help with clean-up after the event. These people will help from 9-11 PM. If you can help with any of these, contact Mike.

Blevins Elementary Partnership, New Gospel Class, Baptisms, Operation Christmas Child

Back to School – Join our Partnership with Blevins Elementary

We have a terrific partnership with Blevins Elementary here in Eureka. Part of this partnership is our desire to assist teachers and the administration in the school by supplying some people who will donate a half hour or so of their time each week to tutor a student. The idea is that our people will make a commitment to come up to the school at the same time each week. The school will connect tutors with specific teachers and often with the same student each week. Tutors will work on reading, help with math, or do any other things the teacher believes will help the student. If you would like more information or would be available to serve as a tutor, contact Nick Allen.

Gospel Class to begin in August

If you are new to Genesis, or have been coming for a while and are considering making Genesis your church home, the Gospel Class is a great chance to get connected and find out more about our church. The Gospel Class is a five-week small group experience designed to introduce people to the core beliefs and values of Genesis Church.

The next Gospel Class will begin on Sunday August 23. The class will meet from 5:30-8 PM. We have an information flyer and registration form for the Gospel Class available at the Information Table. We also need a location for this class. If you would be willing to host this class contact Mike Hubbard.

Baptisms at Church Picnic

Baptism is an important aspect of our faith, as people celebrate a new relationship with Jesus. Baptism pictures death, burial and resurrection, as people are submerged in water as a sign of faith. At the end of the church picnic, we are going to head to the Meramec and do some baptisms. If you have not been baptized, this is a great chance to follow Jesus and do it in a great place. If you would like to be baptized or would like more information on this celebration speak to Mike or one of the Genesis Elders.

Operation Christmas Child

We are going to do our Operation Christmas Child collection this month. The idea of Operation Christmas Child is that people fill a shoe box with gift items for a kid living in poverty in a third world country. The box can contain gift items, toiletries, school supplies, and other things a kids would love. You will need to pick up a copy of the instruction sheet from church or download it, and choose the gender and age of the child. Once the box is ready, include a check for $7 for each box you fill made out to Samaritan’s purse (if you are giving more than one box you can include a single check in one of the boxes for all of them). We will be collecting Operation Christmas Child boxes on the last two Sundays in August.

Genesis Kids Clubs, Meals for Missions Group

Make a Difference - Work in a Genesis Kids Club We are providing as many as seven different Genesis Kids Clubs in neighborhoods and parks in Eureka and around the region the weeks of July 19-24 and July 26-31. The clubs give our church an incredible way to reach out to kids and families. By doing them in back yards and neighborhood parks, it truly gets us into the community. But to make these clubs happen, we are going to need a ton of workers. We have clubs that will meet during the day and during the evenings in both those weeks. If you can help during either of those weeks, we need you! Contact Kristi Machica at the Genesis Kids desk to get more information or to sign up and help.

Meals for Mission Group from Arkansas During our first week of Genesis Kids Clubs (July 19-24) we will have a middle school group from around Little Rock, Arkansas with us on a mission trip to lead two of our clubs, and do other stuff in the community with us. We need to provide meals each evening of the week and need your help with this. We are looking for five volunteers to organize a meal, and many others who can provide some portion. We also need someone to spearhead this effort and organize all the meals so we don’t serve them lasagna five nights in a row.

We have a sign-up sheet available out on the Information Table. Plan on helping us show kindness to this group who is giving a week of their lives to help us live God’s mission in Eureka.

Baptisms, Genesis Family Mission Trip 2009

Genesis Family Mission Trip to Charleston - Ways you Can Help Our Mission Trip to Charleston, MO is taking shape. We have a good group going the week of June 14-19, but can still use others, so if you forgot to get yourself registered, it is not too late to jump on board! You may even consider coming down for a day or two if you can’t get away for the entire week. Contact Mike or Bob & Terry Lancaster quickly. But even if you can’t get away, there are still lots of ways you can get involved. Here is a list of things we need for the trip.

Start gathering prizes, candy, food items for the Kids Club Start gathering clothes for the clothing give away Start giving to the ‘Family Mission Trip’ fund for construction supplies and food for the kids Volunteer to help with projects now, such as finding donations from businesses for food, clothes, construction supplies Pray for the Charleston Community as Shining Light Outreach and director Dean Wallace struggle to meet their needs

North American Missions, New Gospel Class, Genesis Institute

North American Mission Offering

During April we will be collecting an offering for mission efforts in North America. Money given to this offering will be given to support missionaries, help plant churches, and fund ministries throughout North America. If you would like to give to the offering, indicate on your check or offering envelope that you are giving to the North American Missions Offering.

New Gospel Class

The next Genesis Gospel Class will begin on Sunday April 26. The Genesis Church Gospel class is designed for people who are new to our church or interested in becoming members. It is a five week small group experience designed to give an overview of our beliefs and mission as a church. The Gospel Class is a great chance to discover who we are as a church, determine if Genesis is the right place for you and your family, and to develop some relationships with others in the church.

You can get more information about the class and register at the Information Table. We also need a location for the class. If you would be willing to host the Gospel Class, see Mike.

Next Genesis Institute Class - Twisting the Truth

The next Genesis Institute Class will be a DVD series by Andy Stanley titled Twisting the Truth. The class will begin on May 3 in the Children’s area. The class is for High School students through Adults. It will begin at 9:00 and end at 9:45.

Andy Stanley leads this series on some common ways that God’s truth gets twisted. These deceptions have the potential to destroy our relationships and cloud our decisions. This study helps us discover ways to recognize and overcome these falsehoods.

There are six sessions. Class will not meet on Mother’s Day (May 10), Memorial Day (May 24), or Father’s Day ( June 21 ). Register by April 26.
